Is there a dress code for the theatre? ›

This means that you do not have to wear formal attire to the theatre, but some venues may not be happy about onesies or muddy trainers! Make sure you are dressed comfortably as sitting in theatre seats can get slightly uncomfortable. Press and Gala Nights require formal attire as they are usually red carpet events. 2.

Are There Dress Codes for Broadway Shows? In general, there are not any dress codes for Broadway shows. This is because the majority of Broadway shows may be attended to by visitors all over the world, and dress codes can make easy access to the theatre difficult for some.

Both formal and informal clothing is accepted. From casual t-shirts, jeans and flip-flops to a cocktail dress or tuxedo, the spectrum of audience style is so broad that there is no specific dress code.

Catering requirements can be discussed with our Catering/Concessions Department. All Alcohol must be purchased through the Stranahan.

To strike a happy medium, wear nice, comfortable clothes.

Men, nice pants or jeans, and a button-up shirt will do fine. Women, you can't go wrong with nice pants or a dress.

Versatile pieces such as skirts, jeans, and blouses can be paired with other items in your wardrobe to create a smart casual look. Some examples of this type of clothing include: trousers and skirts; tops; and dresses. Trousers, including chinos and jeans work well with a blouse or jacket.

Unless you're heading to a premiere, gala, or opening night, going to the theatre is hardly a red-carpet-style event! For special screenings where there will be a press attendance, smart-casual outfits are recommended. Other than that, wear what makes you feel comfortable!

Smart casual includes items like blazers, sports jackets, dresses, sweaters, trousers, khakis, skirts, blouses, button-down shirts, polos, dress shoes, boots, heels, flats, scarves and jewelry.

The term is basically about balancing your look with high-low pieces, which means you might wear something laid-back like jeans, but dress them up with smarter pieces like a shirt and blazer or heels. Or it could mean wearing a posh dress but then giving it a relaxed edge with a pair of trainers.

Depending on the type of musical, theatre or performance you are seeing, a stylish pair of jeans can fit the bill pretty nicely, especially when paired with an elevated silk or satin-style blouse. Style with a blazer and heels and you'll be set.

Are matinees less formal? ›

Many theatergoers dress smart casual, and some even dress up for evening performances. For matinee performances, it's okay to be a bit more casual.

Unless explicitly stated by the production or venue, you can wear whatever you choose. We'll shout that so everyone in the back can hear us: THERE IS NO DRESS CODE FOR THE WEST END. If you're still a bit nervy about your chosen attire, let's get to specifics and answer your questions individually.

The seating capacity for the Stranahan Theater is 2368 with pit and 2281 without the pit seated.

Dress plainly and comfortably.

Good choices for men are khakis, polos or button-down shirts and loafers or boat shoes. Women arguably have more options: a simple blouse and skirt will work just fine, or you might break out a sundress or knit sweater and tights depending on the weather.

There is no Broadway dress code.

If you are attending opening night, you might see people dressed up; they could be going to the cast party after the show. Gone are the “Mad Men” days when you had to wear heels and a hat to see a Broadway show. Today, anything goes, from leggings to feather boas.

Heights and hats!

If you are a particularly tall person, it may be worth trying to get an aisle seat, not only for a bit more leg room, but to consider the people behind you. Same goes for big hair and hats! Hats should not really be worn in the theatre, and avoid the big hair do's.
